About the Role

In your role as a Senior Project Manager specializing in the construction of data centers for a major tech company, you play a crucial role at the initial phases of data center projects. Your responsibilities include coordinating the initial planning and defining detailed scopes required for the successful execution of data center construction projects. This Project Manager position in Data Center Construction necessitates a profound understanding of both the technical and project managements of large-scale data center development.

Your role also involves managing the design process, starting from the basis of the design stage and extending through the issuance of construction drawings. This encompasses the assembly of matrixed design teams, including both internal and external design service partners/providers. You will facilitate the development of a cohesive plan for project execution and oversee the construction administration services provided by external design teams to support construction activities. Your responsibilities continue with the oversight of the project's construction until its handoff, including managing ongoing synchronization efforts until project completion. You will monitor project progress, report on advancements, and manage tasks such as change orders and budgets. The ideal candidate for this role will possess a strong understanding of building construction and/or design, along with exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.

Requirements

Responsibilities:
  • Manage data center projects including all aspects of the program, concept and design development, schedule and budget management.

  • Resolve highly critical issues within a matrix organization while maintaining adherence to project timelines and costs.

  • Engage with customers, cross-functional partners, and other internal organizations.

  • Facilitate planning and kickoff workshops with internal & external stakeholders;

  • Facilitate design reviews in partnership with external partners;

  • Facilitate large scale workshops as necessary;

  • Issue and administer change orders and contracts;

  • Define and track deliverables from various parties;

  • Track of cost, schedule, progress and scope;

  • Provide health reporting on cost, schedule, scope and progress; 

  • Change management for project scope and design contracts;

  • Facilitate technical decisions in-line with project needs;

  • Coordinate design activities with procurement and construction;

  • Provide clear and transparent communication with all internal stakeholder and external partners; and

  • Ensure the issuance of engineering information to the right party, at the right time, in the right format

  • Ensure delivery of the data center facility, including fit out of the computer rooms, is within budget and scope.

  • Strong understanding of commissioning planning and process for data center MEP systems. 


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or a related field

  • Prior experience with data center design and/or construction required 

  • Examples of design and/or construction of acceptable non-data center projects:

  • Healthcare (hospitals)/Large commercial (highrise)

  • High Power (power plants, etc) 

  • 10+ years of experience in electrical/mechanical systems design and/or construction project management

  • Strong understanding of construction principles and practices

  • Experience managing and coordinating between internal and external teams

  • Experience in the preparation of project plans and presentations


Travel Requirements: 

40% - 60% Travel Required
